Education
It doesn’t matter what contradictions have persisted before… we can’t continue to justify grimy street violence in places that we expect scholarship and leadership. Florida A&M band member, and Georgia native Robert Champion’s death from blows sustained from fellow band members has been deemed murder by a judge and horrific by a public trying to understand the loss of life in an upwardly mobile educational track and what to tell “street thugs” we are trying to correct about the civility of higher education.
It’s time to “belong” to a rigorous caring and knowledge culture and faze out hazing on the streets and in schools and anything else ritualized that does not lead to group consciousness, self improvement, [cooperative economics; collective work and responsibility] and a dedicated appetite to community service-on-the-levels- of- actual- need in our sometimes crises oriented African American communities and k-20 schools.
