Whitney: A Flower Poem

By   w. calvin  Anderson                                                                                                   February 23, 2012

from

the

Sunflower family

a Dandelion with a single crown

an endive

for anthems and creedal salads

a lion’s tooth

for strong-minded hearts.

Her young and skinny stem was longer than the leaves.

She flowered

in fashion and music and

her properties

changed the world’s

age and center;

innocence,

friendliness

medicinal properties

and now reexamines

our hands

with blossoms

and

care.

Whitney… from

the

Sunflower family

A sweet and

world-renowned

Dandelion

with a single crown.

A wild endive

with anthems for

 creedal salads.

A lion’s tooth

for

penetrating

strong-minded

hearts.
