March 12, 2012- Helene Fuld College of Nursing (HFCN) hosted, Honors Induction Luncheon at its facility, located at 24 East 120th Street in Harlem. The event recognized tomorrow’s leaders in nursing for their academic achievements. The students represented HFCN’s fifth cohort of honorees since the program began in 2010.
The honors program was established in February 2010 to recognize and support outstanding students in the College’s LPN to RN Associate degree program. Honorees are selected bi-annually; in February and August. The selection process is based on pre-entrance test scores, grades received in the pre-admission math/chemistry course, professional references, and faculty reviews. All candidates must have a minimum of a 3.75 GPA at the end of the first nursing quarter to qualify and must maintain a 3.5 GPA overall until graduation to continue in the honors program.
All honorees were presented with an honors certificate, laptop computer and a stipend to cover the cost of their textbooks. Council- manic Aide, Jamillah Richards, provided City Council Merit Certificates from Council Member Inez Dickens to the honorees at the luncheon. Honor students will be eligible to fast-track into Helene Fuld College of Nursing’s anticipated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. Additional benefits of membership include priority registration each term and special recognition at commencement.
