NC – Sparky Brown : Rep. H. M. “Mickey” Michaux is The Man — Celebrate With RTP/Raleigh/Durham at the Spectacular Magazine Man of the Year Awards Banquet on Thursday June 14, 2012

According to Spectacular Magazine  a responsible media source for the Research Triangle Area of North Carolina twenty-five men in eight categories have been selected by the  NC Juneteenth Celebration Planning Committee as Finalist and Semi-Finalists for Spectacular Magazine Man of the Year Awards. Nine of those will receive the titles at the banquet. The Banquet will be held at the Hilton RTP 4810 Page Creek Ln – Durham, NC 27703   at 6 p.m.

The recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award is named exclusively by the Planning Committee. This year the Committee has selected Rep. H. M. “Mickey” Michaux , the longest-serving African American member of the North Carolina General Assembly.

Rep. Michaux is an attorney and businessman,and a native of Durham, North Carolina and an alumnus of Durham’s North Carolina Central University. He served in the United States Army  Medical Corps from 1952–1954 and in the Army Reserves from 1954 until 1960. He was an assistant district attorney before being elected to the North Carolina legislature in 1972. In 1977, Michaux became the first black United States Attorney in the South since Reconstruction when he was appointed to head the office in the Middle District of North Carolina. Leaving that post at the end of the Carter administration, Michaux ran for Congress in 1982.
