How many dramatic arts students get face to face opportunities to work with theatre icons today like Woodie King Jr an inductee into the prestigious American Theatre Hall of Fame (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Theatre_Hall_of_Fame ) and with noted playwright’s like: Paul Carter Harrison, Rosalyn Coleman, Michael Dinwiddie, Laurence Holder, P.J. Gidson, Cassandra Medley, Kermit Frazier and Alice Spivak?
The Showcase was the result of a rigorous 12-week dramatic arts intensive training to introduce emerging actors to higher levels of works by giants of the literary world like: August Wilson, Neil Simon, James Weldon Johnson, Athol Fugard, George Axelrod, Lorraine Hansberry, Kenneth Lonergan, Mia Daughtey and Laura Epson. Students were also encouraged to develop original works and their presentations were supported by actress and associate producer, Kim Weston-Moran and playwright, Alice Spivak.
The two workshop segments were called Back to Basic and Acting. The Back to Basics Workshop provided fundamental dramatic instruction to support the Acting in the presentation of great works by seminal playwrights and the original monologues created by the students. The student rooster for the ensemble included: Destimonia Anokye, Lolita M. Ferrin, Veronica Frazier, Zubaidah Guy, Shirley Idumonyi, CarlitaKing, T. Nicole Meritt, Tyrie Sweeting and Vesta Walker.
