Senator Jose Peralta who is currently running for the Queens Borough President’s Office soon to be vacated by the Hon. Helen M. Marshall served his constituents with a super job fair. The Job Fair sponsored by the seasoned Queens legislator and ELMCOR and United Healthcare was held this Saturday May 11, 2013 at St. Paul the Apostle Church’s Parish Hall from 10 am to 1 pm , located at 98-16 55th Ave. in Corona.
Church volunteers were warm and supportive to job seekers and Jose Peralta’s staff led by its chief, Nancy Conde was supportive and encouraging to all job seekers making certain that everyone was personally directed by staff and volunteers to all of the 32 participating employers.
The major employers included: AARP, Aeropostale, Aflac , Avon , Borough of Manhattan Community College , Coca Cola, Council for Airport Opportunity ,New York City Fire Department ,JCPenney , McKissack and McKissack Group , National Income Life Insurance Company , New York City Police Department , Plaza Del Sol Family Health Center , Primerica , Prospect Lending , Queens Centers for Progress , Queens Spy Shop , Regal Entertainment Group , Resort World Casino New York City , Sesame Sprout School, Springhill Suites by Marriott , Starbucks Coffee Company , T-Mobile , The River Fund New York, Time Warner Cable , Trinity Multi-Service Center, Inc., Zales and New York Life Insurance Company.
The training and special service providers on location for the Senator’s Job Fair were the: New York Department of Labor (www.labor.ny.gov), Plumbers Local 1 (www.ualocal1.org), National Urban Fellows (www.nuf.org), New York City Commission on Human Rights (www.nyc.gov/cchr).
“The economy is improving, but many families are still struggling to make ends meet,” Peralta said. “We’ll be able to help at least some of them with this job fair.”
The first woman in line to meet the major employers was Ms. Jabiullah a medical billing and ESL specialist with experience working for the U.S. Census as an enumerator and Elmhurst Hospital Center in diverse capacities trained to use ICD, CPT, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Everyone attending in Queens felt renewed by the job fair.
