I could only imagine the responses if… Maya Angelou, Ruby Dee, and especially Amari Baraka was alive… to read this well-timed…racist publicity test… printed around July 4th in his ole poetic intellectually radical Greenwich Village stomping ground! We still taste something bitter in the present history of America.
Historically, you’d think a black person could be in the White House without anyone’s gimmicks! We know that a lot of people will not read the article, but most will remember the July 4th weekend headline of Jim Collier as an outspoken person who called the President of the United States the N-Word.
May all of our ancestors as real patriots (with the power to defend freedoms and dissent from bull here) rest-in-peace from arguing about this representative democracy and pivotal international model of a pluralist nation. Let’s hope that patriots like Crispus Attacks and Peter Salem on up to Maya, Ruby and Amari certainly rest having served state and ideological thinking, despite the insanities of this world…
Frederick Douglass is of course called out in our memory too because of this holiday, with pained-laughter and obvious disgust about just how long [all-us-we] would have to teach pluralist American principle in America on this holiday opposite economic violence and cheap distractions to broad and “indivisible” ideas of the American dream.
This July 6th article published in the South port area of NYC near the old burial grounds will certainly (starting today) “call-out” heaven and hell. Including rage, literacy and action in NYC from the mayor’s house to at least Harlem — if not internationally! The WestView News and Collier both wanted to make history with this printed article. Let’s carefully watch in the coming months the reason why they chose a “StuPiD” method to test business circulation; bring down property taxes in the Village, and invite southern and international ignorant-er aristocracy.
It is obvious that the WestView News in Greenwich Village is a long time local newspaper with a local editor (possibly from a larger publisher) in what usually is an historically forward-thinking New York City neighborhood. It is also obvious that the editor and perhaps publisher has ideologically teamed up with an experienced writer and journalist to stage a 1) viral internet ratings campaign and 2) N-word tolerance litmus test “up-south”.
According to the New York Post…
Well-heeled West Villagers will be in for a rude surprise when they open the latest copy of their local newspaper and see the headline, “The N—-r in the White House” — except without the dashes.
The shocking headline in the West View News is a reference to President Obama and sits at the top of Page 15 above an opinion piece that criticizes what it calls the anti-black “racism” of far-right voters.
The convoluted screed by author and journalist James Lincoln Collier is actually a pro-Obama piece — but that didn’t stop West Villagers from decrying the printing of the slur.
“It’s disrespectful in any context to refer to the president of the United States as the N-word,” said one West Villager, Eugene May.
Groovetrak Perspective…I Am Tired of Every Allowable Use of the N-Word. I Say “Break Every Chain!”
I would be happy to discuss this further with all people who want to “game” serious disrespect by mistaking the identity of the 42 President of the United States of America.
And as an educator – I also want to discuss further generationally with our own kids…the disrespect by mistaking the historic and current identity of African Americans today.
This includes kids, rappers and friends of our youth who “game” their swag on a word that only describes the viciousness, sustained power and ugliness of White Supremacist who would reduce people for 16 generations and more (if they can) to control “low-living animals” never growing in societal and cultural sophistication.
If any-one…sustains the conceptual language of slavery… they misrepresent and do not choose to realize what [we] offer/offered the human race and world before and since the America experiment has been created as a military and an industrial empire.
I am tired of negative media, poor taste media-for-money, poor taste music-for-money and everyone else’s games that babysit next-generation kids (no-matter-how-clever) to continue to paint and to create “low-life portraits” of African Americans.
They misuse digital and multimedia which should serve a “knowledge culture” to negate [our] positive efforts and continue to make [us] look and respond as if we were a captive, backwards and a conquered people.
We have fewer newspapers, radios stations, positive television programs, mom and pop stores and businesses to counter poor image for our non-commercialized children. Now we even have to encourage reading the newspaper in the “greatest city in the world with constraints and revisited reality therapy about racism”.
Really….What is going on these days…And by-the-way is…my longtime favorite Westchester-New York, woman-pioneer and Larchmont comedian, Joan Rivers now on crack? Did you hear what she said this week about the [our] First Family?
