Ken Spaulding for Governor of North Carolina 2016
DURHAM, N.C. – The descendants of Benjamin and Edith Spaulding will hold their Family Reunion at the Crowne Plaza Tennis and Golf Resort Hotel in Asheville beginning Friday, July 31st through Sunday, August 3rd. The theme for this year’s reunion is “Strengthening the Bonds and Maintaining Family Unity”. Hundreds of Spaulding descendants are expected to meet in Asheville over the weekend bringing with them not only the feeling of a festive family gathering, but also the feeling of a convention.
“Our family reunion continues to grow and it’s a great feeling to know that when our family comes together, we’re not only going to have fun, but we’re going to learn a thing or two also,” said Ken Spaulding, North Carolina Democratic gubernatorial candidate. Spaulding, a descendent of Benjamin and Edith Spaulding is scheduled to speak during the weekend festivities. “When a family as large as ours gathers in one city, it’s really a win-win situation for everyone. Asheville is a great city and I look forward to my time there,” Spaulding said.
The Spaulding Family Reunion is expected to be an economic boon for the Asheville area, as past reunions have impacted the local economies of cities such as Philadelphia, Washington, Atlanta and Los Angeles. Today, there are more than 5,000 Spaulding descendants. The Spaulding Bi-annual Reunion connects cousins from all over the country, with annual events in the 6 geographical regions. A for-profit entity (Benjamin and Edith Spaulding Descendants Association) and a not-for-profit entity (Benjamin and Edith Spaulding Descendants Foundation) have been formed to expand the many projects of the extended family.
