The City of Winston Salem will unveil “Together We Rise,” the “highly synergistic” sculpture(s) of the gifted artist, Vandorn Hinnant on Friday September 5, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the downtown Corpening Plaza located at 237 West First Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101(Map)
The thought-provoking sculpture is a geometrical set of two free-standing metal columns comprised of isosceles triangles bringing together perfect math and a solid unifying message to commemorate the city’s historic milestone.
Vandorn will also have inscriptions at the bases of the permanent pillars. According to the artist the two columns will illustrate “the Salem and Winston communities’ choosing to work together towards a unified front as a city.
This history of two diverse cultures coming together to create an example of harmony achieved through difference is reflected metaphorically through the inherent harmonious proportions throughout the two columns’ geometric proportions.”
He added that, “This depiction will encompass Winston-Salem’s development from a hugely successful industrial power into a growing center of education, business, medicine, and the arts,” Vandorn Hinnant photo credit: Marnie Muller
