Conyers, GA – September 14, 2014 “Hands-Down” Dr. Doreen Williams is the best choice for the important office of Rockdale County Commissioner, Post 2. She will provide the “due diligence” to “move Rockdale County to greater heights” and to move from unnecessary and unproductive, political bickering to effective, constructive, organizational planning. By all accounts, Dr. Williams, known about the county as Doreen, is a friendly and competent woman. She makes long and productive commitments to family and community. She has been married for 40 years and has lived in Rockdale County for 20 years. With five children and nine grandchildren. Doreen is already vested in community, county improvement, civic and business relations.
Effective Leadership and quality services to citizenry must be a “top priority”. Dr. Williams knows the importance of business negotiations and official relationships having served as an active member of the Chamber of Commerce when she ran a small business and met with many professional organizations. In this critical election year what is most important is that we put the “good of our citizens” first and that the commissioner in session and out demonstrate leadership capacities with diligent research, calm and constructive inputs. This commission must have, at the end of the day, real consensus, shared visions on issues and effective creation of necessary improvements in the county.
Dr. Doreen Williams says that, “as the Post 2 commissioner, I will work to constructively: 1) increase efforts for much needed economic development including the adoption and implementation of a long-range strategic plan; 2) effective coordination of educational courses needed for businesses interested in relocating to Rockdale County; 3) improve the process of budget negotiations so that important county business can be addressed by making certain that the needs of each department is carefully considered”
Today, Rockdale County is without a doubt a more diverse place. It needs to be a more contemplative county in its voting this election year. Under CEO, Richard A. Oden there are increased business revenues and the county is attracting even more new corporate businesses with potential to create new jobs — but there is often community murmurs that the partisan set of commissioners are too often involved with unnecessary and unproductive “in fighting”. So as a solutions oriented candidate, Williams is running against Republican, JaNice VanNess.
Doreen currently serves as the co-chair for the statewide Georgia Federation of Democratic Women’s Mental Health Committee and is the immediate past-Chair of the Rockdale County Democratic Party. She served as its treasurer from 2006 – 2012. Her other organizational leadership experience includes serving as a member and more recently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors for View Point Health, an organization that administers the mental health system for Gwinnett, Rockdale, and Newton counties under the Georgia State Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. She serves as the Public Affairs Director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, assisting with community outreach and media relations for Rockdale, Newton, and parts of Gwinnett, Henry, and Butts counties. These certainly provide her with extraordinary organizational management and human problem solving background.
Rockdale County, located 24 miles east of Atlanta, is a fast growing and dynamic suburban community about 130 square miles in size. It is the second smallest of Georgia’s 159 counties and has a population of nearly 86,000 residents. Moving forward Rockdale needs well-rounded and well prepared leaders with strong analytical skills and the capacity to work for the “greater good”. A team of leaders must be demanded and they must be competent and “civic-centered” with a capacity to hear all of the voices of our native residents and our county’s new residents. Doreen Williams, a teacher for 30 years, has witnessed and worked with “change” as a professional each year witnessing people having the courage to engage new experiences. Rockdale must be a united county and people in new situations deserve to have great expectations. They need to be received with respect and conscientious leadership. That is the only way to welcome and encourage active civic participation that is long-term and committed. Williams is a long-term and committed person and also brings the “people skills” and public relations expertise to get the job done. “Hands-Down” Dr. Doreen Williams is the choice for Rockdale County Post 2 Commissioner.
