Poem: Dr. Beny J. Primm Filled a Father’s Place
For many
Beny J. Primm
was a father and earthly parent.
He was simply a big(g) Dude and big(g) idea of a friend and man
present like
a West Virginian mountain positioned in our lives.
He was a bright sunset, a magnificent lion and a jazzy symphony.
He was always poised, fierce and always brilliantly polished with stride
from Dewitt Clinton, Pearl Harbor,Heidelberg, Geneva, Harlem, Westchester, Brooklyn,
and the White House — he was a real work of art.
And so we may never place his
gifting or his countenance
aptly into words.
He was family,
art and science
with endless commitment,
music, decisiveness, had respect for language arts,
great management, enormous love of sports, and versed in
people where he read between the lines.
We may never place his
gifting or his countenance aptly into words
but we can say, however
that we once
saw directly into a Lion King’s eyes.
We witnessed
the beauty
and
freedom of His instincts
the magnificence
in the workings
of His
his heart.
We felt his capacity
to live and to love.
He was a source, taught many to spell haberdashery, upholder, and protector.
He was fierce, ferocious, distinguished and kind.
In his careers
he was the maverick and
made the hard choices: It was his song to simply say
“I did it my…!”
Hard and loving…
a healing doctor in an endlessly controversial world that makes few decisions
and creates even less solutions.
Beny J. Primm was voice, a humanities’ poet in science,
a gentle medicine-man navigating open emotional lacerations for families and patients.
He was a healthcare advocate attending the wounds of our people’s darkest clinical past.
Beny J. Primm was so many things
Mr. Mom, Alpha gentry, a sportsman and founding Fella,
He consummately
reminds us
of what evolves from de Anima
and
what to expect of familia
what “raison d’ etre”
is evoked from loving
and certainly of
what becomes of us having known a true love.
For many
